Porkers sew up yet another league field hockey title

Read the entire article on the Wicked Local Walpole website:

The Framingham High field hockey team did what it does best at Walpole High’s Turco Field last Wednesday, which was to clog up the front of their net with so many bodies the Walpole High football team would have trouble finding an opening.
The strategy worked last year in Framingham as the Flyers handed the Porkers a rare 1-all tie.
It didn’t keep Walpole from clinching yet another Bay State Conference title, however, as the Porkers broke a scoreless tie at halftime with three goals in a span of just over seven minutes to secure a 3-0 win and the crown.
The victory pushed defending Div. 1 South champion Walpole’s record to 12-0-2 (11-0-1 league), with two games remaining.
They finally play perennial Central Massachusetts champion Notre Dame of Worcester at Walpole High today (Tuesday, 4:00) after numerous rainouts, and finish the regular season Wednesday when they host Norwood.
The first half ended scoreless after what seemed like an endless machine gunning of Walpole shots on net.
The ball was in Framingham’s end almost the whole stanza, and …

Walpole High gridders climb to 7-0

Read the entire article on the Wicked Local Walpole website:

Just call it a case of a Salter battery.
Dedham junior Rob Salter did all he could – and then some – to try to keep Dedham in the game as the Marauder gridders hosted unbeaten Walpole Saturday morning, but it was not quite enough as the Rebels eventually rolled to a 35-0 victory over the undermanned hosts.
The junior linebacker was on fire from the get-go Saturday, shooting the gaps and making it difficult for the high-scoring Rebel offense to get untracked.
In fact, although the Rebels took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter, both scores came courtesy of the defense as Walpole picked off a Dan O’Connor pass and ran it back, as well as recovered a fumble in the end zone during a rain-slicked game.
But when Dedham’s defense was on the field, it seemed that Salter was in on every play, and he finished a day of over 20 tackles with nine in the first 12 minutes alone.
With a determined defense holding the visitors to just 26 yards total offense the first period …
