Villa admits to child rape
Aug 27th
Read the entire article on the Wicked Local Walpole website:
Daniel Villa, who was the “toast of the community” as the football coach who led the Walpole Rebels to a super bowl win last year, will spend two years behind bars after pleading guilty to three counts each of statutory rape and enticing a minor.
The teary-eyed Villa, who was led out of a Norfolk Superior courtroom in handcuffs yesterday afternoon, was also sentenced to seven years of probation upon his release from a county jail.
He was scheduled for a status hearing – were prosecutors present evidence against the defendant and a judge lays out how a trial will proceed.
The former coach, teacher and Walpole High School athletic director pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Dec. 30 of last year and once again at a grand jury indictment in March.
Defense attorneys declined comment on why Villa chose to plea out now, but the former coach did express a desire to put the matter to rest for all those involved.
“I’m thirsty for a clear conscious. A clean slate. A fresh start,” Villa said, who told the court he is currently …

Walpole educators close to accepting pay cut
Aug 26th
Read the entire article on the Wicked Local Walpole website:
School administration and the teachers association are on the verge of agreeing to a slight salary decrease that would make it possible to bring back three full-time educators who were laid off in July, according to Superintendent Lincoln Lynch.
He and other administrators, Lynch said, have already agreed to work a day without pay – working 221 days while being paid for 220.
The superintendent said the teachers’ union executive board has already approved of the deferral day for all of Walpole’s teachers and they are simply waiting for a vote from the entire association.
Lynch called the situation a "tentative agreement."
A teachers association meeting is set for the morning of Aug. 31 during the School Committee’s "Welcome Back Meeting" held for teachers.
Teachers would work 183 days and get paid for 182.
Of the educators coming back, two counselors who will split time between schools, one is a full-time teacher and one is a part-time educator.
The full-time teacher coming back will be brought back to teach the fourth grade at the Old Post Road Elementary School.
Class sizes in Old Post Road would have been 30 students, Lynch said, adding …
Braintree Americans bet on power ball and win, 6-4
Aug 22nd
Read the entire article on the Wicked Local Walpole website:
There was good news and bad news last Thursday for the Walpole National 12-year-old All-Stars.
The good news is that they finally got the revenge on their American League counterparts who beat them in the District 11 championship game.
The bad news is that they were not able to convert the hard-earned victory into a Suburban League Super 12 title as they were knocked off, 6-4, by Braintree American in the second game of a doubleheader played on Kelley Field in Norwood.
The title game was a showdown between the league’s top two offensive juggernauts, and it showed as Braintree American and the Nats combined to hit five home runs.
Braintree’s Americans came in swinging lethal bats, having rolled over Duxbury, Kingston and Newton East by 13-5, 10-4 and 9-2 scores in the first three games of the playoffs. They finished the first round unbeaten with a 5-3 victory over Westwood, and completed a 7-4 defeat of Quincy just …
Walpole Americans vs. Nationals, Part 2
Aug 22nd
Read the entire article on the Wicked Local Walpole website:
More often than not, sequels to great productions are pretty average, and nothing to rave about. Just ask Hollywood.
The idea will begin to sink in about what they mean by “formulaic” in Tinsel Town when one watches the second “Planet of the Apes” movie, and every “Apes” sequel after that.
Then again, every now and then the second production is just as brilliant as the first, such as the second “Godfather” movie or the rematch of boxers Mohammed Ali and Joltin’ Joe Frasier.
Add last week’s rematch between the Walpole Americans and Walpole Nationals to that list.
Playing a game just as intense as, and even longer than, their first meeting in the district championship game Walpole’s two 12-year-old Little League teams battled to the last out in the semifinal showdown of the Surburban League’s Super 12 championship.
Adding to the argument of which of the two teams is better – the defensive-minded Americans or the power-hitting Nationals, the Nationals …
