Question & Answers
Why no camps for K,1st & 2nd graders – boys or/and girls? – For the past 2 years we have tried to have a a K/1/2 section for camp – but sign-ups were so low that we had to cancel those sections & give refunds. So as of now we are not going to try it again. But if you really want a K/1/2 section – in any 2 grade section – we can do it – we just need you or someone with K/1/2 aged players to organize a minimum of 8 boys/girls in any 2 grade combination, [K/1, 1/2] and we can make it happen. If you want to try to help organize this for your player or team or group – please send an email to info@walpolesoccer.org and we will get back to you

But if you really want a Boys section – in any 2 grade section – we can do it – we just need you or someone on the boys side to organize a minimum of 8 boys in any 2 grade combination, [3/4, 4/5, 5/6, 6/7, 7/8] and we can make it happen. Graduates urged to live out their dreams

Salutatorian Bridget Sheppard stood before her classmates on Sunday afternoon and compared their upcoming journeys through life to a fairy tale – sometimes reflecting the happy endings in the wonderful world of Disney; sometimes resembling the morbid tales of the Brothers Grimm.
Valedictorian Jennifer Herrmann, meanwhile, urged her classmates not to live in a fairy tale world, but to make their own dreams come true.
The 135th Walpole High School graduation ceremony was held amid storybook weather, as 287 students were handed diplomas under sunny skies and warm temperatures.
Many of the graduates undoubtedly saw the event as a turning point in their lives – a symbolic crossing into adulthood – but Sheppard reminded them instead of their youth and of the mystical characters that once captured their imaginations.
"We stand on the edge of the real world and as we choose between following the sure and steady path laid out for us with limited obstacles as if it came out of Candyland, …

Lacrosse: Rebel boys (20-1) roll past Falmouth, 18-6

When the Walpole High boys’ lacrosse team began the state tourney against Sharon they were without starting attack Adam Niden and senior Jake Lamorte responded with his first hat trick.
When the Rebels hosted Falmouth Friday without Niden and starting middy Leo Ajemian, some had to step up again, and Lamorte responded with his second career hat trick.
Lamorte was only one of many to step up for an injury and illness-riddled team, which moved on to a Tuesday showdown with Franklin at WHS by way of an 18-6 win over the Clippers, raising their season slate to 20-1.
Along with those stepping up, like Chris Norberg and Tim McDonald with their first career postseason goals, there was a lot of damage done by the usual suspects, as Davis Butts potted five goals, Kyle Guilbert matched Lamorte with three goals and an assist, and Michael White and Ryan Izzo each scored twice. With the help of stingy defense turned in by regulars Connor Whittemore, Michael Connors, …

Softball: Quealy perfect as KP rolls, 11-0

Usually a team that survives a whole regular season without losing a game has virtually no weaknesses, and unfortunately the Walpole High softball team discovered that Saturday when they visited top-seeded King Philip in Plainville.
KP pitcher Maggie Quealy herself is not invincible, but when put in front of an excellent defense and backed by a well-rounded line-up, she may as well be.
The Warriors continued their unbeaten skein (21-0) Saturday via an 11-0 win over the Rebels as Quealy mowed down 21 straight batters in a perfect game. KP’s hitting was just as impressive. Although only getting nine hits, two of those were home runs by freshman catcher Olivia Godin, who plated three runs and scored three.
Before they faced the KP juggernault, however, the Rebels did get a chance to end the season of the Warriors’ Hockomock League rival, Franklin.
The 5-4 win at Bird School on Thursday was a bit of payback from the Walpole program to the Panthers, who eliminated the …

    School Committee profiles

Read the entire article on the Wicked Local Walpole website:

    DOT BERGEN

An original member of the Strategic Plan Implementation Committee, School Committee Vice Chairman Dot Bergen feels the plan is solid ground for the children of Walpole to stand on now and in the future.
The Strategic Plan “brings the children into focus” by setting clear educational goals for the district, Bergen said.
“The value of the Strategic Plan has never been so apparent to me as it is this year in times of a really difficult fiscal climate,” she said, adding that the committee has taken incremental steps to achieve goals since the inception of the plan two years ago.
The plan, she said, has created a model for school reductions this year since priorities of the committee are clear. Previously, cuts seemed arbitrary, Bergen argued.
When the economy improves, the plan will also serve as a “backdrop” for what needs to be reinstated first, she said.
The budget process as a whole has become “transparent” and “user friendly” over her tenure as a school board member, Bergen said, with the committee’s hiring of Superintendent Lincoln Lynch – a man who she says has …

Subj: Questions about Girls u10 TRAVEL TRYOUTS on TUE 6/2
    ————————————————————–
Hi Parents of FALL 3rd & 4th grade Girls.

There seems to be some confusion, and possibly some mis-information about u10 Girls soccer tryouts on Tuesday June 2nd, and I just wanted to be very clear and very specific to avoid any confusion at tryouts, and avoid having to turn girls away at the registration table.

    u10 Girls Tryouts – TUE 6/2 4-5:30pm
are only for u10 age soccer players with a birthday on or after 8/1/99 through 7/31/2000,
or for players who will be in 4th grade in the Fall.

    Q&A
Q- My daughter will be in 3rd grade in the Fall and is not a u10 aged soccer player – can she tryout?
    Answer – No

Q-Is there a plan to have a u9 Girls Travel soccer team at this time?
Answer – there is no plan at this time to have a u9 Girls soccer team. u9 Girls will play in the Walpole In-town u10/u9 league, which plays its games at Mylod field on Saturdays, and does not require travel outside of Walpole.

Q-At the u11 soccer age what happens then?
Answer – At u11, all of our players travel in the BAYS travel league, this would include all the players who played u10 travel and all the players who played u10 In-town.

If you have any questions – please contact Mark Gallivan, President Walpole Youth Soccer at mgallivan@walpolesoccer.org

Playoff Round 2: U13 Walpole Rebels squeek by KP Warriors

From the Friday Night Lights Lacrosse website:

In one of the most exciting games this year, King-Philip’s U13 Warrior traveled to Walpole to take on the undefeated Rebels.

Walpole took an early lead in the game, 2-0, but by the half the Warriors had tied it up 4-4.

During the second half, the game became a bit more physical with Walpole seemingly taking the brunt of it. The teams traded goals until the Warriors took the lead late in the game. With under a minute left in the game, Walpole rallied to tie it up.  With just over 30 seconds left, KP was threatening to put the game away, but Walpole’s defense tightened and sent the ball back towards KP’s goal. After a final time out, Walpole was unable win the game in regulation due to exceptional defensive play by the Warriors.

Sudden death, OT. Four minutes. Walpole gained possession of the ball and settled the ball offensively. From a high wing, Walpole’s attack made a laser pass to a middie down low, KP’s wing defense man reacted with a precise stick check, Walpole dodged and got around the defense man, up fake… goal for the win!

Playoff Round 1: U15 Rebels stampeed Mustangs

From the Friday Night Lights Lacrosse website:

In the first game of the playoffs, Walpole’s U15 Rebels send Norwood’s Mustangs back to the corral. Walpole’s goalie, Andrew Blood, stepped up to his best effort of the season, seeing the ball well and holding off Norwood’s deadly offense to ensure the win, 10-4.

Board looks at link to parents

Read the entire article on the Wicked Local Walpole website:

School Committee members Monday night discussed creating an e-mail address through which parents could contact the board, but concerns about specific implementation of the method and the state’s Open Meeting Law delayed action.

Superintendent Lincoln Lynch brought the idea before the committee as a way of helping to achieve a goal listed in the board’s strategic plan that calls for better transparency within the district. Survey respondents some time ago also requested a method to send e-mails to the board and a parent recently brought up the issue, he said.

The superintendent had planned to set up a generic e-mail account for all correspondence to collect. Those e-mails would be reviewed and sorted by Administrative Assistant Lois Pineau. Lynch said he could then go through them with the current chairman or vice chairman of the committee.

School Committee Chairman Nancy Gallivan said it would improve communication between the schools and parents. She noted that simple questions like "who is the editor of the high school’s newspaper" could be answered immediately, but the majority of e-mails would be distributed to all seven committee members.

Committee member John Desmond warned that …
