Despite a constant deluge there would be no raining on the Walpole High boys’ parade on the Turco track in Tuesday’s final home meet of the 2009 season.
While the Walpole boys’ 4-by-4 relay team finished the running events with a personal best clocking, down below on the throwing field senior Captains Chris Cameron and Ryan Collins were finishing 1-2 in the javelin to close out a soggy but satisfying meet.
Neither performance was even necessary for the host Rebels to remain unbeaten at 6-0 however, as they had already stockpiled enough points en route to a convincing, 81-55 win over Wellesley. The win was revenge over the one team that beat the defending league champions last spring, and left the door still open for an unbeaten season. The only thing standing between the Rebels and perfection now is Dedham, which the teams visit this Tuesday.

Schools gird for swine flu

Read the entire article on the Wicked Local Walpole website:

As the count of American schools closed because of swine flu reached nearly 300 yesterday, local education and health officials said they were taking necessary precautions – but they do not foresee shutting the doors of their facilities.

That would change if there is a confirmed case of swine flu in a school.

If that were to happen in Norwood, "We would look to the Department of Public Health to make the recommendation," said Stacey Lane, assistant director of the Norwood Health Department.

Lane said while Norwood is not now planning on closing its schools, families should talk about contingencies should the situation change.

"They want people to have this conversation now and plan in case the schools are closed. I think that’s an important message," she said.

"We just want to stop the spread (of the disease), so practice good hygiene – if your child’s sick, keep him or her home from school. And if people do that, hopefully it won’t happen in our schools in Norwood," Lane said.

In Massachusetts, the Associated Press has reported that Boston public health officials say a student at the Harvard School of Dental …
