Turco field. Final push to complete phase 1

From the Walpole Youth Football & Cheerleading website:

Dear Friends:

We have come so far with your help!

It has been a year since the new turf field was opened and the complex at Walpole High School never looked better for the graduation this past June, but the Friends of the Walpole Community Athletic Complex are looking to raise the final funds needed to close out Phase 1 of the project which replaced the track and field.

Like many home improvement projects, the work is completed and the FWCAC is now looking to pay the final bills due for one of the largest privately funded improvement projects in town history. The project, which took three years of planning, pulled together the funds and resources to design and build a complex that will serve the Walpole community for years to come. While we encountered several bumps along the way, you generosity and support saw us through those challenges.

From a financial standpoint, the total project cost for Phase 1 which included the planning, design and construction of the turf field and synthetic track amounted to approximately $1,650,000. To date, the FWCAC has raised almost $1,635,000 and currently has a fundraising deficit of approximately $15,000.

Each of you has already been very generous to this project and we recognize that there are many demands on our families during these challenging economic times. We would like to ask you to consider a donation that will assist us in our goal of completing the first phase of this project.

Once we reach our goal for Phase 1, the planning for lights can begin!

Sincerely,

Greg Salvatore, President

Friends of the Walpole Community Athletic Complex

The ‘Laxicon’ – a lacrosse dictionary

From the Walpole Youth Lacrosse League website:

A somewhat amusing lacrosse dictionary of lacrosse terms, hosted by e-lacrosse.com.

My favorite is the Armadillo play, and, no, we will not be incorporating this into the WYLL play book.

Online ‘feed and shoot’ video game

From the Walpole Youth Lacrosse League website:

ESPN has released a lacrosse ‘feed and shoot’ video game called “LAX Attax: Lacrosse”. Ok, it’s not the most realistic thing you’ve ever seen, but it’s better than playing another round of Scrabble.
LAX Attax: Lacrosse

Race the clock to score as many goals as you can.

So, how do you subscribe to an RSS feed, anyway?

RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is probably one of the most under-utilized services available today. RSS allows you to receive a website’s latest information via delivery as opposed to having to actually go to the website to read it and see if anything is “new”.

The WalpoleSports.org RSS feed is kind of like the paper boy for youth sports in Walpole; it will bring the latest youth sports directly to you. It’s a very convenient service.

So, how do you subscribe to an RSS feed, anyway?

There are multiple ways for you to subscribe to an RSS feed. You can download an RSS reader application to your desktop, you can add feeds to your Google Mail app, you can add feeds to your Yahoo Mail app… essentially, you need a vehicle in which you can receive your RSS notifications and read them.

My personal favorite way in which to receive RSS feeds is via a Yahoo Desktop Widget. A desktop widget is something that runs on your desktop and when an internet connection is detected it will loop through your RSS feeds and retrieve all the latest news for you. Since it’s a completely free service, give it a try. Here’s how:

  1. Go to http://widgets.yahoo.com/
  2. Click on “Get Started NOW”, http://widgets.yahoo.com/download/
  3. Download the Yahoo! Installer by clicking on the “Get Started Now” button.
  4. After downloading the installer, pick up the NewsStand RSS widget, http://widgets.yahoo.com/widgets/newsstand
  5. Once the NewsStand widget is installed, add the WalpoleSports.org RSS feed to receive the latest information from your favorite Walpole youth sports website:
    1. Click the [+] button in the left panel
    2. Enter the feed URL, http://walpolesports.org/feed
    3. Enter a name for the feed, WalpoleSports.org
    4. Accept the default values of 50 RSS items, updated every 30 minutes
    5. Submit and save your RSS feed.

What you’ll have now is a desktop based system which will deliver to you the latest news for Walpole youth sports.
